Ways to Get Involved
All local alumnae–plus current students when home for breaks or interning/working in the area–are welcome and encouraged to participate in the Club. We are a volunteer organization, so the more people we have at the helm, the more we can accomplish.
Sign up for our e-newsletter, the primary method of communication between the Club Board and local members regarding Club news, upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and local admission outreach. You may also keep up to date on the Club’s activities by joining us on Facebook in the Mount Holyoke Club of Chicago and Chicagoland Seven Sisters groups. Need to contact the Board directly? Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org!
The easiest and most casual way to connect with the Club is by attending an event! The Club sponsors frequent events and co-sponsors yet more with local Seven Sisters and Ivy League alumnae/i clubs.
Annual favorites: Mary Lyon Brunches (February), welcome party for accepted students (April), Strawberries and Champagne (May/June), send-off for matriculating/current students (July/August), Mountain Day ice cream socials (fall), M&Cs with prospective students (October), Young Alumnae Brunch (December), and ZooLights at Lincoln Park Zoo (December).
Pop-up events: Loop Lunches, book/article club, service projects, happy hours, concert/theatre/film outings, and mentoring/networking events.
Event Planning and Hosting
The Club has maintains a relaxed policy regarding event planning. If there is a particular event you are interested in organizing for the Club–or if you hear of an event that you think would be of interest to other Club members–please let the Board know! It can be as simple as “I’m performing in a dance concert and would like to invite alumnae” or “Who wants to go to this museum with me?”
Several of our annual events–Mary Lyon Brunches, Strawberries & Champagne, M&Cs, and some book club gatherings–are graciously hosted by alumnae in their homes. We are always grateful for new hosts and will help you plan and facilitate the event if you would like. You need only provide space.
The Club supports the Office of Admission in recruiting accomplished, competitive, dynamic applicants from across Chicagoland and the wider Illinois and northwest Indiana region. Throughout the academic year, alumnae volunteers attend numerous college fairs, speak on informational panels, host M&Cs open houses for prospective students and their families, interview applicants, celebrate accepted students with a welcome party, and send matriculating students off in style. We also build relationships with guidance counselors at local high schools, so that we can communicate the value of a Mount Holyoke education and help counselors identify which of their students might be a good fit.

The MHC Club of Chicago is run by a dedicated team of alumnae volunteers. Board members are elected at the Club’s Annual Meeting by active (dues-paying) members and serve for one-year terms. All active members are encouraged to run. With the exception of President (must have prior Board experience) and Alumna Admission Representative (appointed by the Office of Admission), all positions are open regardless of past Board/volunteer experience.
If you see a need that the Club does not currently address or an area in which we could do better, please do not hesitate to step up and help us out. Our officer structure is flexible, so we can add positions as needed.
Want to vote for future Club leaders or even run for a position yourself? Ensure you’re eligible by paying your dues annually. (Pay what you can; $25 suggested.)
